In a shocking incident, a youth brutally killed a woman he was in a relationship with, by slashing her throat and smashing her head with dumbbells on Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred in Panda Veedhi area in Visakhapatnam.

Suspecting that she was having an affair with some other youth, B. Satish Kumar committed the crime at his house after calling B. Bhavani (19) to his house.

During a heated argument, he broke a mirror and slashed her throat with a piece of glass. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the scene but Satish threatened to attack them. He then hit the girl on her head with dumbbells and dragged her down the stairs.

Satish also attempted suicide but some people caught hold of him and handed him over to police. A profusely bleeding Bhavani was rushed to government-run King George Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Bhavani's family members said the duo were in a relationship for the last four years. Though they hail from different castes, both sides had agreed for the marriage.

Recently, Satish had met with a road accident and sustained head injury. Since then there was a change in his behaviour and he started suspecting Bhavani.

Police said they registered a case and were investigating.

Meanwhile, in another unrelated incident, an intoxicated man allegedly attacked his wife and child with an axe at Yerrabalem in Guntur district, which led to his son’s finger being cut off.

According to reports, the man picked up a fight with his wife in an inebriated condition, and picked up an axe in a fit of rage.

On seeing this, the son rushed to defend his mother, but received injuries himself.

The duo lodged a police complaint.
