Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta and Ajith Kumar’s Viswasam, which have been confirmed to hit the screens during Pongal 2019, might not have a simultaneous dubbed release in Telugu, according to reliable sources in the trade. Since three major Telugu releases – Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama, Venkatesh and Varun Tej’s F2 and the first part of NTR biopic – have been confirmed as Sankranti releases, the chances of Viswasam and Petta to have a Telugu releases look very slim.

After having simultaneous releases for Telugu with Kabali, Kaala and 2.0, Rajinikanth is most likely to not have a release in Telugu for Petta along with its Tamil version. “It’s very unlikely for Petta and Viswasam to release in Telugu as theatre owners in Telugu states will give first preference to the three big Telugu releases. Even if Petta and Viswasam manage to have a release amid the tough competition, it’ll be extremely difficult to find screens,” a source in the trade said.

Petta, which marks Subbaraj’s first time collaboration with Rajinikanth, also stars Trisha, Simran, Sasikumar, veteran filmmaker Mahendran, Megha and Bobby Simhaa in key roles. Trisha will be sharing screen space with Rajinikanth for the first time and on being signed for the project, she had said that her career has come full circle.

On teaming up with Rajinikanth, Subbaraj had said he sees it as a fascinating opportunity to make his dream come true. The film, which has been predominantly shot in north India, has music by Anirudh Ravichander.

Viswasam, on the other hand, marks the fourth consecutive collaboration of Siva and Ajith.  Viswasam features Ajith in dual avatars - in salt-and-pepper and fully dyed black look. Both the looks feature Ajith twirling his moustache. While there are rumours that Ajith plays dual roles in the film, sources close to the team have clarified that he merely appears in two different looks.
