The Vijay starrer Mersal is gearing up for a worldwide release on October 18 on a big scale. Being a Diwali release, there are strong expectations of this film getting a big opening. While it is well known that Vijay’s popularity in Kerala and Andhra – Telangana region is ever increasing, the buzz now is that there are strong expectations for his Mersal in Karnataka as well.
Industry reports say that the distribution rights of this flick for the Karnataka region have been bagged by Horizon Studio for a whopping Rs. 5.5 crores on the Minimum Guarantee basis. Horizon Studio had distributed films like Kaurppan and Vikram Vedha earlier and has tasted immense success.
It may be noted that Mersal will be distributed in Tamil Nadu by Thenandal Studio Limited, in Andhra and Telangana it would be North Star Entertainment, in Kerala it is Global United Media, in Australia & New Zealand it is MKS Talkies and in the US by ATMUS Entertainment.
Atlee has directed Mersal with Vijay playing the lead role. Interestingly, he will be seen in three different get-ups in the film. Playing the female leads in Mersal are Kajal Agarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya. SJ Suryah, Sathyaraj and Vadivelu are also in the star cast.
Produced by Thenandal Studio Limited, this Vijay starrer is made on a budget of Rs. 130 crores. The technical team of the film comprises music director AR Rahman, editor Ruben, and costume designer Neeraja Kona. Handling the camera for this magnum opus is cinematographer GK Vishnu, who had assisted Richard M Nathan in several films earlier.
