It has already been made official that Thalapathy 64 will mark the first-time collaboration of actor Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who rose to fame with Maanagaram and currently awaits the release of Karthi’s Kaithi. The yet-untitled project had its official launch ceremony on Thursday in Chennai and the entire team was in attendance.

Tipped to be a gangster drama, there are rumours that the film will feature Vijay in the role of a college professor with a violent past. The film will be predominantly shot against a college backdrop. It’ll be the first time Vijay will be seen playing a professor.

The film will see Vijay Sethupathi play the antagonist and he’s believed to be essaying a deadly character. Malavika Mohanan, last seen playing a key role in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta, has been signed as the leading lady. The film, which will have music by Anirudh Ravichander, also stars Antony Varghese and Shanthnu Bhagyaraj in key roles.

Sathyan Sooryan will crank the camera while Philomin Raj will take care of editing. The regular shooting will commence later this month and Vijay will join the sets immediately while Vijay Sethupathi will join a little later as he’s occupied with multiple projects.

Vijay currently awaits the release of Bigil with director Atlee. The film, which is gearing up for release this Deepavali, will see him play a football coach in a women’s team.  The film, being produced by AGS Entertainment, was officially launched last November in Chennai.

Meanwhile, it is being said that Vijay was recently trained by a special physical trainer to prepare for his role. Sixteen women will star as sports players in the film, which also stars Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Kathir, Yogi Babu and Vivek in crucial roles.
