The vigilance department of Kerala will review bar bribe case whistle blower Biju Ramesh’s confidential statements given to a magistrate with regard to the bar bribery case. Biju Ramesh, chief of the Kerala Hotel and Bar Association, alleged late last year that bar owners were asked for a bribe of Rs. 5 crore in return for renewal of licenses of the bars. Biju Ramesh further alleged that he paid part of the sum Rs 1 crore  to Finance Minister KM Mani. Biju had told media that he had said in the statement that bribe had been paid to three Congress ministers, including K. Babu. He alleges that the excise minister took a bribe of Rs 10 crore, for bringing down the amount to be paid for renewing bar licenses from 30 to 23 lakh rupees. Out of the 305 statements recorded by the vigilance, more than 250 people are bar owners, who claim that they have paid bribes at various points of time to state-level office bearers.
