Fanaticism reached new heights last Friday at a theatre in Maharashtra during the screening of Karan Johar’s Diwali release “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”.

When Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who makes a guest appearance in the film, appeared on screen, the Malegaon theatre in Nashik not only erupted in loud cheers and claps but fans lit up fireworks inside the theatre.

The crackers went on for a full minute.

The bursting of crackers during the 9 pm show at the Upkar theatre triggered panic and 400 among the 900 people walked out of the theatre after parts of the theatre caught fire, reported Huffington Post India.

The website quoted the theatre owner Vijay Bhuse, saying, that the screening was interrupted for 10 minutes to contain the fire.

"We re-started the film in 10 minutes. But by then, out of fear, nearly 400 people had left the theatre. Many were also angrily asking for refunds," Bhuse said.

Five youths were arrested in connection with the incident, the report said.

We plan to charge them with causing riots," Bhuse added.

“Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” directed by Karan Johar stars Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, Anushka Sharma in lead roles.

The film, which features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, ran into controversy after parties like the Shiv Sena calling for a ban on Pakistani artists following increased tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
