Telangana State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to the Karimnagar District Collector

On a day of quick developments, three caretakers of a children’s home in Karimnagar have been suspended for branding children with hot spoons after CCTV footage emerged.

On Wednesday, CCTV footage emerged showing the children at a Shishu Gruha being branded with hot spoons. The incident however, occurred on April 16.

That very day, the Telangana State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to the Karimnagar District Collector, asking him to submit a report on the incident by May 2. Soon after he was issued the notice, the Collector suspended the three officials who allegedly branded the children.

“The ayahs who look after children below six at the Sishu Gruha branded the children with a hot spoon. They should be punished with imprisonment for such a cruel act. We have we have issued notice to collector Karimnagar for enquiry and action against the culprits,” Achyuta Rao, Member State Commission Protecion of Child Rights (SCPCR) told The News Minute.

Taking suo moto cognisance of the incident, the commission stated that it is concerned about the lack of safety of the children in Shishu Gruhas in the state.

The commission also added that officials were neglecting children belonging to the poorer sections of the society.
