An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from the Hyderabad police was caught on camera, slapping an accused woman during a press meet on Saturday.

Begumpet ACP S Ranga Rao was addressing reporters in Bolaram when he was seen turning around and smacking a woman across the face.

Three women, Manga, Rani and Swati, had been arrested by the police and accused of committing thefts in jewellery shops by diverting the attention of shop owners.

According to reports, when they were produced before the media, Manga said, "I was not involved in any crime. The police wrongly implicated me."

This seemingly angered the ACP who smacked her in the face, before asking his subordinates to escort the accused out of the room.

As mediapersons were present at the time, the entire incident was caught on camera.

Many people criticised the move on social media, as it went against the Telangana state's motto of 'people-friendly police'.

"We will conduct an inquiry where he would be asked an explanation for losing his temper. Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, VV Srinivasa Rao, may initiate an inquiry into this matter,” DCP North Zone, B Sumathi, was quoted as saying.

Just earlier this month, a brawl broke out between the traffic police and a drunk man, which ended with three cops roughing up the man.

The traffic police, who were conducting the drunken driving check, stopped a car coming from Jubilee Hills checkpost. They soon realised the driver, Deepesh, was in an inebriated condition, drunk beyond the permissible limits.

The police started registering a complaint against him and tried seizing his car, when an infuriated man, identified later as Ankit, got out and attacked the constable, Jitendra.

Provoked by his behaviour, the constable retaliated and soon two of his colleagues joined in thrashing him.

Ankit was roughed up by three personnel before the inspector intervened. The brawl was caught on camera.
