A teenage girl who was allegedly forcibly married off last month, has filed a complaint against her relatives and her husband.

The 14-year-old girl from Bengaluru, filed a complaint at Kumaraswamy Layout police saying that despite opposition from her mother, her relatives forcibly married her off on March 20. She alleged that she was locked in a room with her husband, who sexually abused her, reported Bangalore Mirror.

Police have registered a case and have arrested the girl’s husband.

According to the police, the girl was asked to quit school as her family could not afford the fee after her father passed away. The trio initially lived in a relative’s house, who asked them to vacate. The victim’s brother approached another relative, who let them stay in his house.

One of the days when the girl was alone in the house the accused, her husband, called his parents and expressed his wish to marry her. On being asked, the girl refused to marry and informed her mother and brother.

On March 20, the accused dragged her to a temple and married her. On being asked why he married a minor, the accused’s parents threatened her mother and beat her brother. Following this, the girl was locked in a room with the accused and was sexually abused.

She lodged a complaint in the police after she managed to escape from the house, reported Bangalore Mirror.

“The girl and the accused were subjected to medical tests and he has been arrested. The role of his parents and other family members is under investigation. However, after she learnt about her husband's arrest, the girl was ready to forgive him, but it was too late as it had been brought to the notice of police and they had to act on it,” said the police
