Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday criticized the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) saying it is an organization engaged in killing people.

“SDPI is an organization which gives training to kill people in an easy way,” Vijayan said in the Assembly. The SDPI however, is a registered political party and has contested elections. "The murder of the League worker was due to political rivalry. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case,” he added

The CM made the statement after an adjournment motion was brought by the Opposition demanding a discussion on the murder of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) worker Azeez (22). He was stabbed to death in a clash between SDPI and IUML activists at Velam in Kozhikode district on Friday.

IUML MLA Parakkal Abdulla demanded that a special team be set up to investigate the murder while serving notice for adjournment motion to which the CM agreed. Abdulla alleged that there was an “illicit link” between the local SDPI leadership and the police.

Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the ruling CPI (M) has a soft approach towards the SDPI although SDPI and the RSS are “two sides of the same coin”.

The opposition staged a walkout after the Speaker of the house refused the adjournment motion.
