Sandalwood smuggler Veerappan was killed almost 12 years ago. Now, the person who led the operation is planning to chronicle events leading up to his death in a forthcoming book.

The almost 1000 page book on Veerappan is being written by retired IPS officer K Vijay Kumar.

“It is a first-hand experience book. My aim is to give a clear and correct picture on how Veerappan was killed,“ said Kumar, now senior security adviser to the home ministry.

Kumar was the chief of the Special Task Force that launched ‘Operation Cocoon’ to nab or kill Veerappan.

“My book will be the real story. I will not reveal names of a few persons due to security reasons. Otherwise, every detail of the operation is being chronicled,” said Kumar.

Notorious forest brigand Veerappan operated in the forests of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, where he poached nearly 200 elephants, smuggled ivory worth crores and killed hundreds of people for more than two decades.
