US-based Keralites to help spur state's growth

The News Minute | January 15, 2015 | 8.20 am ISTThe New York based Indian American Kerala Centre, an organisation of the Keralites settled in the US, plans to bring technologists from the US cutting across different technology and other verticals.To achieve this aim, a two-day Technology Summit is being held here Jan 12-13, said Thomas Abraham, the convenor of the Summit. The opening ceremony is slated for evening."Kerala must explore the possibility of leapfrogging to the next generation technologies including, nanotechnology, nanobio convergence technologies, nanomedicine, biomedical, alternative energy generation and storage, medical devices and products, new generation IT and other next generation products from chemical and physical sciences and pharmaceutical industry," Abraham told reporters here, Monday.The initiative will help attract investment and resources and will support skills training, mentoring, entrepreneurship and development of employment opportunities.The goal is to make Kerala a hub of technology enterprises and activities which will rival similar centres elsewhere in India.Shaji Baby John, chairman, Kings Group of Companies and India co-ordinator for the initiative, said Kerala is on the threshold of a next level of economic boom with reverse migration of highly skilled technocrats.Issac John, chairman, World Malayalee Council, said that it will encourage its members to start new technology businesses in Kerala."WMC has already set up an office and a facilitation centre, here to take care of the various needs of the NRI community," said Issac John.
