Eleven years after Prithviraj starrer Chocolate released, there comes a film called Chocolate Retold. Confirming the project, scriptwriter Sethu said that it will not be a sequel to the 2007 film but a new interpretation of it. Unni Mukundan will play the lead role in the new film.

In an interview to the Times of India, Sethu has been quoted as saying, “It’s a new interpretation of Chocolate. The story happens after a guy named Abhimanyu arrives in a women’s college that has close to 3000 girls. Abhimanyu is not there to study or teach. The reason he’s there and impacts it has on the students form the story.”

Pritvhiraj’s Chocolate was one of the biggest hits of the time. The film was scripted jointly by Sethu and Sachy and was directed by Shafi. The film also had Jayasurya, Roma, Samvrutha Sunil and Remya Nabeeshan in pivotal roles. Made on a budget of Rs 2 crore, the film grossed Rs 13.67 crore at the box office making it a commercial success.

The new film will try a different point of view. Sethu says, “Most of our campus tales have only showcased romance or were from the guys’ perspective. Here, we are trying to tell that from the point of view of the women. It will mirror the contemporary female youth — their conversations, thoughts, hostel life and even their vices. Women today are open-minded and not scared to voice their opinions and this story will showcase those aspects.”

The shooting of this film is set to begin in early 2019 with the shooting spots selected in Kochi and Malappuram. Plans are on to shoot some important sequences in Greece as well, we hear. While Unni Mukundan will be playing the lead role, talks are on with Wamiqa Gabbi to play the heroine. The film is expected to have another heroine too, and reportedly it is going to be a new face.
