Locals of Balaganeshapuram near Coimbatore were in for a shock on Tuesday when they found a body of a girl, half-burnt and with injuries on the head, in an isolated spot.

Balaganeshapuram is in Veerakeralam town panchayat near Coimbatore.

Vadavalli police was alerted by the locals who spotted the body.

A police team led by Perur Deputy Superintendent of Police, R. Krishnaswamy rushed to the spot and started investigating.

Police were not sure of the girl’s age and identity. However, they found some body markings which could help indicate her identity.

Deccan Chronicle quoted the DSP saying, “The girl should be between 12 and 15 years of age. She could be north Indian as she was wearing a chain made of black beads which north Indians usually wear.”

Bleeding injuries were found on the rear side of the girl’s head.

Two iron rods which were about one foot long and a pair of men’s slippers were found near the body. Besides, the inner garments of the girl were lying near the girl’s body.

Forensic experts collected evidence from where the body lay.

The police also spotted car tyre marks on the vacant plot. This led to the police suspecting that the girl was kidnapped and brought to the desolate land for being raped.

“The accused would have battered her when she tried to escape and then burnt her to erase all evidence,” said the police office.

Five special police teams comprising of Vadavalli inspector M Subramani  and Thondamuthur sub-inspector Daulat Nisha have been formed to catch the accused.
