In a horrifying incident, two people were killed in Bengaluru after they were thrown off their motorbike and fell down from the Hosur Road Elevated Expressway, when an over-speeding cab hit them near Bommanahalli on Saturday afternoon. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Fakhruddin (37) and Zaheer Hussain (47), residents of Neelasandra.

The Deccan Herald reported that their bike reached the elevated express highway stretch between Bommanahalli and Garebhavipalaya, when an over-speeding cab (Maruthi Suzuki Ritz bearing registration number KA-01AF-8965) lost control, hit the side wall, and then collided with the bike.

The duo were thrown off the expressway on impact, and fell to the ground, 40-feet below.

While the rider died on the spot, the pillion rider was rushed to St John's Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident was also caught on camera.

The speeding driver was identified as an Uber driver. Following the accident, which occurred at around 1pm, the Uber driver abandoned his vehicle and fled from the spot. Uber authorities are cooperating with the police, to identify the accused and nab him.

A senior police officer told DH, “Only after apprehending the cab driver soon and medical tests performed on him to determine if he was driving under influence, we would be able to ascertain if he can be booked under 304 – culpable homicide not amounting to murder.”

The accident led to a massive pile-up of traffic on the expressway.

Meanwhile, the Madivala traffic police registered a case and seized the cab.
