The Innova car belonging to a Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) MLA ran over and killed a man on Sunday in RangaReddy district. The Kalwakurthy MLA G Jaipal Yadav was in the car at the time of the accident and escaped unhurt. However, the 40-year-old victim, identified as K Jaganath, died on the spot.

The accident took place at 8 pm near Maheshwaram Mandal in Rangareddy district. The deceased was crossing the road when the car heading towards Hyderabad from Kalwakurthy hit him. Jaganath used to work at a local school, Maheshwaram police told the Times of India.

Driven by the designated driver, the MLA was also accompanied by his security details. Jaipal reportedly got down from the vehicle when locals demanded action be taken against the driver for overspeeding. The MLA, however, soon left the scene.

The relatives of the deceased protested on the Srisailam National Highway demanding justice for the deceased, reported News 18.

The driver was reportedly taken into custody and a case has been registered under section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that a vehicle the Kalwakurthy MLA has been travelling in was involved with an accident. In 2018, the SUV that Jaipal was travelling in met with an accident when a tipper lorry rammed from behind. The legislator escaped unhurt though the vehicle was totalled.

Earlier in August, a BJP leader from Telangana K Kishore Chari, his wife and son died in a car accident at Shamirpet in the outskirts of the Hyderabad city. The CCTV footage of the accident showed that the car had lost control at an intersection and rammed into a divider made of concrete. The car flung in the air and hit another car coming from the opposite direction. Three other passengers, including the leader's second son, survived the crash.
