Ahead of the Pragathi Nivedana meeting by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on September 2, the Hyderabad city traffic police have imposed curbs on the movement of vehicles along Outer Ring Road (ORR) from 10 am to midnight on Sunday. In a press release, the traffic police have listed out the locations across the city where traffic is expected to be affected.
Heavy traffic movement is expected along the Kukatpally-ORR route via Miyapur, Hafeezpet and Gachibowli and on the Uppal-Sagar Road route via Nagole, LB Nagar. A similar scenario is expected along all national and state highways leading to Hyderabad from 8 am to 6 pm on Sunday and from 7 pm to 5 am on Monday.
The United States Consulate General in Hyderabad, too, issued an alert to all US citizens in the city, on Friday.
In its alert, the US consulate said, “Local media report that the Chief Minister of the State of Telangana will convene a rally on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Participation estimates vary, but crowds in excess of 100,000 people should be expected. The rally will take place at Kongara Kalan, which is southeast of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). Main roads leading to the airport (to include the Outer Ring Road – ORR) can be expected to be saturated with event-related traffic. Roads may be closed, diverted, or otherwise restricted. Expect an increased profile from police and security forces.”
The consulate also suggested US citizens avoid areas with demonstrations and civil disturbances and to keep a low profile. The US citizens have been asked to be aware of their surroundings, to monitor local media for updates, not draw attention to themselves and also review their personal security plans.
People travelling to and from the airport, railway station and bus stands have been advised to plan their journey keeping in view the movement of the meeting.
