Fundamentalist group Islamic State released a song in Mandarin on Sunday with the aim of establishing a presence in China and calling on Chinese Muslims to take up jihad.

The song titled ‘We are Mujahid’ is four minutes long. "No power could stop us from moving forward", “It's our dream to die fighting on the battlefield",  "The shameless enemy would panic" and "Pick up your weapons to revolt" are some of the lyrics contained in the song.

The IS propaganda website Jihadology released the song through the Al-Hayat Media Center.

"This is the first time that the IS has released a Chinese song to recruit members or inspire its followers," said Zhu Yongbiao, assistant director of the Institute of Central Asia Studies at Lanzhou University.

Muslims from China's western region have reportedly travelled to Iraq and Syria to join the IS, and some have returned to launch attacks in the country.

"Some terrorists in the Xinjiang Uygur region have travelled via Turkey to Syria and Iraq to join the IS and some of them will return to launch terrorist activities in China," an expert from the Institute of American Studies under the Chinese Academy of Social Science said.
