The Hyderabad Traffic Police have blocked certain arterial roads in and around Durgam Cheruvu lake and Inorbit Mall in the city, which could potentially affect thousands of techies who travel through the area while commuting to work everyday.

“The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities have taken up the Cable Bridge work over the Durgam Cheruvu lake at Madhapur. They plan to install the bridge girdles for which they need to block the road from Something Fishy restaurant to Bharath Petrol Bunk near NCC office from June 23 to June 25,” the police said in an advisory.

“As such the following traffic diversions and restrictions are put in place for ensuring smooth flow of traffic. Public are requested to take alternative routes and co-operate with the Traffic Police,” the advisory added.

The police said that traffic will not be allowed from Inorbit Mall towards Nectar Garden and Road No 45. The traffic will instead be diverted at I Labs ‘U’ turn towards Cyber Towers and NCB junction.

The traffic coming from Jubilee Hills will not be allowed towards Nectar Gardens will be diverted towards Madhapur L&O Police Station, Vittal Rao Nagar and Cyber Towers and made to take a left turn towards Inorbit Mall. However, traffic can move till Nectar Garden only for the convenience of local residents.

Traffic coming from Ayyappa Society will not be allowed at COD crossroads and will have to go via Cyber Towers and take a left turn towards Inorbit Mall.

This comes even as several techies were facing issues after authorities decided to shut off a major U-turn near Lemon Tree hotel near Cyber Towers.

Since June 1, thousands of techies who use the road from Cyber Towers were forced to take a detour of close to 2 km and almost travel up to Biodiversity junction through the Raheja underpass, just to take a U-turn.

Hyderabad’s first cable suspension bridge is being constructed from the main entrance of Ambedkar Open University at Jubilee Hills Road No 45 to the junction near Inorbit Mall.

The Durgam Cheruvu was once, one of the largest lakes in the Cyberabad area. However, today it is a stinking mess, covered with water hyacinth, and stagnating garbage. There have also been several unchecked encroachments on the lake.

The lake is also known as the 'secret lake', as it was naturally hidden between rocks, with Jubilee Hills on one side and Madhapur on the other.
