Several arterial roads in Hyderabad were massively flooded and inundated on Tuesday evening, after the city witnessed torrential rains, leaving many stranded either inside their homes or offices.

Large parts of Secunderabad received the most rain, with rainfall crossing 100 mm in many areas, as per data available with the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

As of Wednesday morning, Tirumalagiri received 121.8 mm, while Shanti Nagar and some other parts of Uppal received 120.8 mm. Parts of Marredpally in Secunderabad also witnessed a heavy downpour with 114.5 mm, while parts of Musheerabad received over 114 mm of rain as of 5:30 am on Wednesday. Other areas of the city that received heavy downpour, included Begumpet (104.5 mm), Monda Market (103 mm), Habsiguda (102.8) and Bowenpally (100 mm).

Parts of Cyberabad witnessed massive traffic snarls as movement came to a standstill due to the rain. In some places, bikers and pedestrians were forced to wade through knee-deep water.

"It is heavily raining in Gachibowli, Madhapur and Jubilee Hills due to which the all the traffic has come to a standstill especially in Jubilee Hills area. Hence, all are requested to leave offices little late and observe staggered timings," the Cyberabad Traffic Police tweeted.

The police also informed that there was heavy waterlogging at Ayyappa Society in Madhapur, near Road No 36, besides inundation at Nector Gardens towards Road No 45. Authorities advised commuters to avoid the Inorbit Mall to Durgam Cheruvu Road completely.

Many also took to social media with photos and videos of the rain; which ranged from water entering the Nacharam police station, to the emergency ward of the Lalaguda railway hospital.

Many social media users however, did thank the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), its Disaster Management Cell, and the personnel of the Traffic Police for staying up all night and working in the rain, to reduce inconvenience to commuters.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the showers would continue until Friday morning.

"Heavy Rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban, Mulug, Mahbubnagar, Bhadadri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Jogulamba Gadwal, Wanaparthy and Narayanpet of Telangana," the IMD warning for Thursday states.
