  1.     Across the State, shops and other private, government establishments remained shut with streets remaining deserted in respect as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s funeral was held in Rameswaram with full state honours. Thousands of people gathered to be a part of this occasion.   2.     According to The Times of India, while residents of the working-class in Chennai get about 50 litres per person from the city's MetroWater supply, a person in a higher-affluent locality can get double that. As per the Bureau of Indian Standards, there is a 135 litre per person requirement of water.   3.     Over 50 hostel students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College in Chennai were admitted in hospital after some of them showed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhoea and giddiness. The body of a stray dog was later found floating in the drinking water sump.   4.     A resident of Karumbukadai, has alleged that his two year-old son was hospitalised after being fed Nestle’s baby cereal containing worms. Nestle has denied the presence of anything wrong, reported New Indian Express.   5.     DMK MP, Kanimozhi, has criticised the idea of death penalty calling it “illogical and inhumane”. Stating that the DMK has always been opposed to it, she promised to move a “Private Member’s Resolution” and “Private Member’s Bill” in Parliament to help prevent this, reported Deccan Chronicle.   6.     A two year-old male leopard attacked at least five persons before it was caught in Adhiyamankottai, Dharmpuri. After a four-hour long operation, before which it attacked a number of people, the cub was released into the Hogenakkal reserve forest.
