Top stories from Karnataka: Lokayukta's son Ashwin Rao arrested by SIT

 1. Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao's son Y Ashwin Rao was arrested by a Special Investigation Team from Ranga Reddy district in Telangana in connection with the alleged bribery racket in the Lokayukta office. Ashwin's arrest comes soon after the SIT arrested Karnataka Lokayukta PRO Syed Riyaz on Sunday. 2. Lokayukta Joint Commissioner (PR) Syed Riyaz has been remanded to police custody until August 5. He was arrested on Sunday and was produced before the Lokayukta Special Court on Monday. His application seeking interim bail was refused by the judge as the prosecutor stated that Riyaz had to be interrogated in connection with the bribery racket. 3. The Karnataka High Court on Monday asked the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board to submit details on what measures were taken to prevent sewage water from entering lakes in the city. The BWSSB submitted that the 110 villages at the periphery of the city lacked proper under ground sewage drains and hence was causing pollution. 4. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has sought a report from former chief minister SM Krishna on the spurt in the number of farmer suicides in the state. According to a report in New Indian Express, Sonia wants to know the action taken by the state government to tackle the crisis. 5. Even as figures touched more than 100 since January, debt-ridden farmers continue to commit suicide in the state, with seven more ending their lives on Monday. Three of the farmers were from Hassan district, of which two consumed poison and another hanged himself. The number of farmer suicides touched 12 in Tumkuru district on Monday, as one more farmer killed himself.
