1. The State Election Commissioner PN Srinivasachari on Thursday announced that elections to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be held on July 28 and results will be announced three days later. With declaration of the date, the code of conduct has come into immediate effect, said the Commissioner. 2. A debt-ridden sugarcane farmer from Pandavapura taluk in Mandya district committed suicide on Thursday by setting his field on fire and then walking into it. The 60-year-old farmer had suffered huge losses after sugar factories did not buy the stock and the prices dipped in the market. 3. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday examined former Union Minister KH Muniyappa and Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash in connection with the death of IAS officer DK Ravi. The CBI said they were not quizzed as an accused, but it was necessary to know under what circumstances Ravi was working and if there was any pressure. 4. The State government has gone into a damage control mode by suggesting to seize sugar from as many as 55 sugar factories to recover dues of Rs. 923 crore, which has not been paid by the sugar factories to farmers. The decision was taken after the government suspected that the Opposition may disrupt the Legislature session at Belagavi from June 29. 5.
