Five of the total nine accused in the hacking of Dalit youth Sankar over marrying a Kausalya, a caste-Hindu girl have been sent to remand in Coimbatore Central Prison. Kausalya’s father has been sent to remand in Madurai Central Prison, while her mother and brother are still on the run and one more accused is still yet to be identified.

Selvakumar, Madhan, Manikandan from Dindigul and Manikandan from Tirunelveli were hired by Pandidurai, Kausalya’s uncle and Chinnaswamy, Kausalya’s father to kill Sankar. Two of the accused were on one bike, while three others were on another bike when they committed the crime. Based on call record data which showed that they were present at the time of the crime and that they had called Kausalya’s father before and after the crime, the five were sent to Coimbatore prison.

Kausalya’s father had earlier surrendered at Nilakottai sub court in Dindigul the day after the murder happened. CCTV footage has been gathered as main corroborating evidence at the Udumalpet.
