Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall along with thunderstorm and gusty wind on Monday across Kerala. According to IMD, most parts of Kerala will have gusty winds with a speed reaching of 40-50 kilometres per hour along with lightening at isolated places.

IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Wayanad and Pathanamthitta as 1 to 25 stations in the two districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall measuring from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm. Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has also issued an alert for landslides in districts with hilly terrains, said a report of Mathrubhumi.

KSDMA had also put out warnings urging the public to avoid trips to hilly areas of Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts from 7 am to 7 pm on Monday, as there are chances of landslides and floods in the regions. It has also said that people must restrain themselves from entering rivers, canals or other water bodies as there is a chance of rising water levels.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall throughout Kerala till April 25. No alerts have, however, been issued to fishermen in the state or in Lakshadweep. No rains have also been predicted in Lakshadweep islands.

For the past week, Kerala has witnessed rainfall with thunderstorm and lightening in parts of the state. Two persons were also recently killed in a lightning strike in Ernakulam. In Kollam district, two persons sustained injuries after lightning struck a tree. In yet another incident on Sunday, a resident of Mudapuram in Thiruvananthapuram was also injured after lightning struck his mobile phone.
