Renowned Tamil comedian Goundamani lodged a complaint at the Chennai City Police Commissioner’s office on Tuesday seeking action against some social media users who spread rumours that he had passed away.

The complaint was later forwarded to Cyber Cell.

“Mr. Goundamani is hale and healthy. In the recent past, the rumours were spread on Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter, claiming Mr. Goundamani had died. His fans from all around the world and his well-wishers had called to check about these rumours,” Goundamani’s lawyer, Sasikumar who lodged the complaint on behalf of the actor told The Hindu.

Sasikumar said that due to this hoax, family members of the actor had to face agony and his fans were upset as a result of the same.

The Hindu reported that Sasikumar asked the police to block IP addresses of the miscreants for misusing social media.

Wednesday’s development comes after a similar series of hoax messages of his death in September triggered a sarcastic response from the actor.

He remarked that he did not know who the kind-hearted rumour mongers were and they would achieve from such goodness.

Not just Goundamani, his contemporary and comedian Senthil too was a victim to such rumours.

In May this year, rumours of Senthil's death were so strong that the actor was forced to give statements.

“I’m perfectly healthy. I request all my fans and well-wishers to not believe in the death hoax that has been circulating since last night. Need your support as always,” Senthil said in May.

Best known for their partnership in a slapstick double act, the duo was regarded as one of the best comic pairs of south Indian cinema during their heydays.
