There will be little respite to citizens in Telangana as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended its warning for a heat wave till June 19, adding that monsoon was likely to set over the state only on June 20.

The IMD had earlier predicted that the monsoon would arrive by June 13, but the occurrence a Low-Pressure Area over the Arabian sea developed into Cyclone Vayu, which sucked out the moisture and also delayed the rains in the state.

"Now, the southwest monsoon has revived and it is moving and advancing, that's why we are expecting the monsoon to hit Telangana around June 20," an IMD official was quoted as saying.

In its warning, in place till 8:30 am on June 19, the IMD said, "Severe heat wave conditions were very likely to prevail at isolated pockets and heat wave conditions very likely to prevail at some parts over Telangana."

However, it also said that, "Light to moderate rain or thunder showers were very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana."

Meanwhile, the temperature continued to remain high in many parts of the state. Badrachalam remained the hottest place in the state as it witnessed a maximum temperature of 43.2 degree Celsius.

Khammam saw a maximum temperature of 42.2 degree Celsius, a departure of 6.8 degrees from normal, while Ramagundam witnessed a maximum temperature of 41.6 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak and Hanamkonda also remained above 40 degrees, with the districts witnessing 41.8, 40.5, 40.4 and 40.5 degree Celsius respectively.

Hyderabad witnessed a maximum temperature of 38.2 degree Celsius, a departure of 4.5 degrees from normal. 

The IMD had forecasted that the state would receive 96 % rainfall his monsoon season that amounts to 717 mm of rainfall.
