A sub-inspector at Kukunoorpally police station ended his life by shooting himself with his service revolver at his police quarters in Siddipet district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Reddy, a native of Yadadri district.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police in Gajwel division, the incident occurred at around 11.30am, when he was alone at home.

“So far we have not recovered any suicide note. We are investigating on the case. Accordingly, we will register a case,” said Giridhar, ACP of Gajwel division.

According to local media, the family of the SI has been alleging that he might have ended his life due to harassment from seniors.

The family and relatives of Prabhakar staged a protest in front of the police station blocking the road. They have demanded an investigation into his suicide.

Last year, in a similar incident, T Ramakrishna Reddy, another sub-inspector at Kukunoorpally police station shot himself dead with his service revolver at his quarters allegedly due to harassment from his superiors.

It was reported that the SI had left a suicide note alleging that he had been harassed by the division DSP and Circle Inspector.

According to Deccan Chronicle, he had written a two-page suicide note addressed to Medak SP, alleging that Siddipet DSP Sridhar and CI Venkataiah had been pressuring him to collect more mamool (hafta) and deliver it to them.
