As the Telangana election nears, several candidates, who are desperate to win at any cost, are making a last-ditch effort to bring down rivals with aggressive campaigning and a blatant disregard for the Model Code of Conduct.

In the Huzurabad constituency of Karimnagar, the constituency of Finance Minister and TRS candidate Etela Rajender, it is a no-holds barred contest between Etela and his Congress rival Padi Koushik Reddy, cousin of TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The duo has been engaging in an intense verbal spat, name calling and also hurling abuses. Etala Rajender has lashed out at Koushik for alleging that Huzurabad did not develop in his tenure as legislator.  The Congress candidate has alleged a threat to his life after his car was vandalized by supporters of Etela Rajender.

In a video that has gone viral, Etala Rajender, who was addressing a gathering at Kamalapur last week, lost his cool, and called Koushik Bos****. In the same vein, Koushik had called the Finance Minister a dwarf, while addressing the crowd at Huzurabad, and further warned against making comments on his appearance.

These personal comments are against the Model Code of Conduct. The Election Commission has issued notices to several leaders like TRS’ Harish Rao, Congress’ Revanth Reddy, and Vanteru Pratap and TDP’s Reddy Revuri Prakash for allegedly making derogatory remarks and threatening opponents.

The political discourse in Telangana has already stooped to a new low with the verbal duel between Congress leader Revanth Reddy and Pedapalle MP and TRS’ Chennur contestant, Balka Suman.

In the ugly fight between the two, Balka Suman had showered abuses on Revanth Reddy, calling him a ‘dwarf’. In return, Revanth Reddy called Suman, a stooge of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, and said that he is someone who chews on the leftover bones of KCR.

As per the MCC guidelines, “Criticism of other political parties, when made, shall be confined to their policies and programme, past record and work. Parties and candidates shall refrain from criticism of all aspects of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties. Criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortion shall be avoided.”

Telangana will go to polls along with Rajasthan on December 7.
