A mob stoned a man to death in Telangana after he allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl, the Telangana police said on Sunday.

The incident took place late on Saturday in Donkeshwar village of Nizamabad district.

According to police, a group of villagers tied 45-year-old Sayanna to a tree and hit him with stones and sticks. The man died on the way to hospital.

Sayanna, a labourer, was drunk when he called the daughter of his neighbour to his house, offering her chocolates. He later raped her.

Upon seeing the girl crying and bleeding, villages alerted her parents, who were working in an agriculture field. The parents took their daughter to a hospital in a neighbouring village.

Meanwhile, angry over the incident, the villagers caught hold of Sayanna and tied him to a tree. They threw stones at him and also hit him with sticks.

Quoting eye witnesses, a police officer said that when the man fell unconscious, some people took him to a hospital, but he died on the way.

Police rushed to the village and launched an investigation. Those who assaulted the man have gone underground.

According to reports, Sayanna was staying alone in the village as his wife had dumped him due to alleged harassment and his son is in jail in connection to a murder case.

Just earlier this week, a 65-year-old man was tied to a tree and thrashed by residents in Sayempalem village of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

The locals resorted to the shocking act following allegations that the man’s son had molested a married woman from the same locality.

A Sanjeeva Rao, the victim of mob justice, unable to bear the humiliation, later attempted to end his life by consuming pesticide.

Police said that they went to the village after learning about the matter and conducted an enquiry. Two separate cases were also registered.
