A twenty-three-year-old student from Telangana killed himself at the University of Michigan in USA on Monday.
The reason behind the suicide is unclear, with the local Michigan police still investigating the case.
The deceased, identified as Raja Vamshi Reddy Muddasani from Telangana, had reportedly moved to Michigan from Florida earlier this year.
Following his death, the Telangana Development Forum in the US started an online crowdfunding campaign to send Raja’s body to India.
“Rajavamshi hails from a middle-class family. His father is a government teacher and mother a homemaker. The parents are being informed about the incident,” the petition stated.
The Deccan Chronicle reported that Raja’s parents were informed about the incident on Tuesday.
The campaign, which started with the target of $50,000, on Tuesday mobilised $13,000 dollars with 350 people donating within 12 hours, DC report adds. The campaign was closed later, after it raised $20,063.
In April this year, another Telangana native, 37-year-old Madhukar, was found hanging from a fan in his house in Seattle.
Before ending his life, Madhukar had sent a mail to his parents, requesting them to forgive him.
Madhukar and his wife Swati, who is also a software professional in the northwestern US city, had recently moved into their new home with their daughter.
According to his family, he was very well off and did not have any financial problems.
An alumnus of BITS Pilani, Madhukar was living in the US since 2010 and was working for a multi-national company.
His relatives said he had stopped visiting his parents after the marriage and they blamed Swati for this alienation.
However, Swati said that Madhukar was battling depression and was on medication, when he killed himself.
