The TDP on Wednesday protested in the Assembly and across the state over the revised bus fares of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses.

The state-run RTC's decision to increase bus fares came into force on Wednesday. The charges of Palle Velugu (ordinary) and city service buses have increased by 10 paise per kilometre and by 20 paise kilometres for other categories. The AP government and the RTC have stated that they have increased bus fares to save the Corporation from losses following the increasing price of diesel and other materials.

On Wednesday, TDP took out protests along with Left parties condemning the "indiscriminate" bus fare hike in bus stations across the state.

Protesting the increase in fares, Nara Lokesh, ex Minister and MLC, traveled in a Pallevelugu (Ordinary) to Amaravati from Mangalagiri to attend Legislative Council session. Lokesh also took tickets along with his cadres. Taking to Twitter, Lokesh said, “Jagan has put burden of charges on people who are already in trouble, the government should immediately reduce the hiked fares.”

Later Nara Lokesh and former CM Chandrababu Naidu, MLA Balakrishna participated in protest rally in front of the Assembly along with TDP MLAs and MLCs holding placards. The premises echoed in slogans against the government demanding reduction of the hiked bus fares.

Speaking to reporters, Chandrababu Naidu said, "By increasing charges everywhere YSRCP wants to create inconvenience for people, it's atrocious to increase the fares without taking the Assembly and the Council into confidence though the house (assembly) is in the motion now."

Slamming Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naidu said, "This is nothing but arrogance, he is acting like the way he wants thinking that no one can do anything since he has majority."

Pointing out that the bus fare from Mangalagiri to Amaravati has been raised from Rs 10 to Rs 15, Naidu hit out at CM Jagan for not giving any reason for the hike and burdening the common man with a minimum hike of 50%
