In a shocking turn of events, a 24-year-old student of Environmental Studies department in Manasa Gangotri College has been arrested after he reportedly confessed to the Mysuru Police that he uploaded photos of 10 women students from his department on an escort website for revenge.

The case was handed over to the CID cyber-crime branch after the the Jayalakhshmipuram police filed an FIR based on the women’s complaint on April 19.

According to the police, Jayanth Kumar, a final year student, confessed to the crime on Friday while he was being questioned by CID sleuths.

“Jayanth Kumar said that the girls always teased him about being a teacher’s pet, which had angered him. He said he felt extremely humiliated by the way the girls teased him, and decided to post their photos and cell phone numbers on an escort service website name Locanto in order to extract revenge,” an investigating officer said.

The women from the Environmental Science Department of the Manasa Gangotri College in Mysuru began facing a harassment nightmare, as they began getting multiple calls from strangers asking them to have sex for money on April 11.

Shocked beyond belief, the women were unable to figure out how so many strangers had obtained their phone numbers.

When one of them finally asked her caller outright how he got her number, she found out that the man had obtained it from a website offering escort services named Locanto.

But none of the ten women initially knew that there were others in their department facing the same troubles.

However, on April 18, they realised that ten students in all had been subjected to the same situation.

What’s worse, the photos uploaded on the website were the same photographs that the women had submitted to the college at the time of admission.

The girls had filed a collective complaint on April 18 at the Jayalakshmipuram Police Station in Mysuru.

However, the police said that on Tuesday, the girls had written to the University’s Registrar, stating that they suspected a professor of being involved in the crime as they had had arguments with him over an internal assessment exam.

“We had initially suspected that it was a professor too, as the information from the college database was taken before uploading the details on the escort service website. And only certain officials have access to the student details,” the investigating officer added.
