For the first time in Tamil Nadu the Election Commission will keep an eye on polling booths through webcasting in a number of booths, Thanthi TV reported.

Addressing a media conference in Chennai, Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said, “Maximum number of polling booths will be monitored through web casting in Tamil Nadu. Out of 65,000 polling stations, arrangement has been made for 25,000 stations to be monitored through webcasting.”

In a first of its kind, Tamil Nadu elections will see some polling booths that are completely women-run. “All polling officials in these stations will be women. As far as possible women security personnel will be appointed in these stations,” said Sinha.

Tamil Nadu will elect its next government by voting in a single phase on May 16.
