Tamil Nadu CM Stalin meets Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi

Stalin had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday with a list of 25 demands, concerning the state of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday met Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi for the first time after the Assembly poll results were declared on May 2, as part of his two-day visit to the country’s capital. Stalin was accompanied by his wife Durgavathy Stalin and visited the residence of Sonia Gandhi on Friday morning at 10 Janpath. The meeting is said to have lasted for 40 minutes, and the leaders reportedly discussed issues surrounding the state.

After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and wrote, "Congress President Sonia Gandhi and I had the pleasure of meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Durgavathy Stalin earlier today. We will keep working with the DMK to build a strong and prosperous state for the Tamil people." Congress contested the recent Assembly elections in alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

Subsequently, Stalin shared an emotional note on Twitter regarding his meeting with the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders. “Met interim INC president Sonia Gandhi and leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday. The relationship with INC has continued since the period of Kalaignar (late Chief Minister and Stalin’s father K Karunanidhi). Today’s meeting is very close to heart," Stalin tweeted.

Stalin had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday with a list of 25 demands, concerning the state of Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister urged PM Modi to allocate adequate COVID-19 vaccines for Tamil Nadu, drop medical entrance exams like the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), finish construction of the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai, revoke the National Education Policy (NEP) and protect the Indian fishermen at Palk Bay, among other key demands. After meeting the PM, Stalin addressed reporters and said, “The PM had assured cooperation and assistance to the development of the state, while also assuring me that I can contact him anytime with the concerns of Tamil Nadu.”
