Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi is playing the lead role in the biopic based on the legendary freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy titled Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy.

Reports indicated that Chiranjeevi has done a lot of homework to get into the skin of the character and will be seen in a complete different get-up. For the titular role, he was seen sporting a beard and twirled moustache. He has been spotted with this look for the past couple of months, but movie buffs were surprised to see him in a cleanshaven look at recent events. This also sparked off rumours that the Rs 150 crore magnum opus has been put on hold.

However, the star has now clarified that the project is very much on the cards and that he had shave off his moustache and beard as the team was testing some VFX effects. Chiru added that the shooting of the film would recommence in February.

Written and directed by Surender Reddy, Sye Raa is being produced by the megastar’s son and actor Ram Charan Teja. The film, which stars Nayanthara as the female lead, also has a star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jagapati Babu, Kiccha Sudeep and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles. According to reports, Big B’s role in the film will be a sort of extended cameo and he will be portraying the role of the lead character’s guru.

It may be mentioned here that the project was announced last year but the shooting was delayed for various reasons. Earlier, Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman was announced to be the music composer for the film but he eventually backed out. Also Santosh Sivan was the initial choice to crank the camera but with the film not commencing as per plans he moved out and R Rathnavelu was brought in.

Shooting for the film began on December 6 and is now under progress. The team is taking a short break before the second schedule goes to the floors, say sources in the know.
