Flipkart-owned UPI-based payments company PhonePe has partnered with online food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy to enable customers to pay on Swiggy using PhonePe.

In addition to existing payment options, customers can also pay using PhonePe wallet and UPI within the Swiggy app.

Currently PhonePe is available only on Swiggy’s Android app and will be launched on the Swiggy website, m-site and iOS app in a few weeks.

“We are extremely happy to announce this partnership with Swiggy. An increasing number of consumers are relying on online food ordering platforms like Swiggy for their F&B needs. Our customized and seamless payment flows on Swiggy will help these consumers place their orders faster. This is also a partnership between two like-minded companies who believe in delivering a superlative experience to consumers,” Pradeep Dodle, Head of Business Development, PhonePe said in a statement.

As an introductory offer, those paying through PhonePe on the Swiggy app can avail 25% PhonePe cashback up to Rs 100 on their first order and up to Rs 50 on their subsequent order during the offer period.

“At Swiggy, we’re continuously working towards delivering delightful customer experiences by making online food ordering more seamless and hassle-free for our consumers everywhere. We are very pleased with this partnership with PhonePe as it gives our users many simplified payment options like UPI and PhonePe wallet that are fast, safe and cashless,” Anuj Rathi, Vice President, Product, Swiggy said.

PhonePe is currently being accepted by more than 60,000 online and offline merchants including MakeMyTrip, PVR, McDonald’s, Flipkart, ClearTrip, Myntra, KFC, TicketNew, Spencer’s, Faasos, Café Coffee Day, Apollo Pharmacy, ZopNow, Barista, FoodWorld and Pai International among others.

PhonePe has stated earlier that as part of its growth strategy, it will be looking at several partnerships and acquisitions to expand its offerings and customer base. Most recently, it also collaborated with redBus to offer the first-of-its-kind, app-in-app payment platform.

Swiggy, on the other hand, has been growing aggressively in the foodTech market as it faces tiff competition from players such as Zomato, UberEATS and Ola-acquired FoodPanda.
