Actor Suriya, who has recently completed shooting for Selvaraghavan’s NGK and is on the verge of wrapping up KV Anand’s Kaappaan, has joined hands with director Sudha Kongara for his next project, currently dubbed as Suriya 38. On Sunday, the film had its official launch ceremony which saw the cast and crew participate.

The launch event was attended by Karthi, Jyothika and actor Sivakumar. The film also stars Aparna Balamurali, last seen in Rajiv Menon’s Sarvam Thaala Mayam, as the female lead and she’s thrilled to be part of the project. Aparna took to Twitter and wrote: “Delighted, gratified and in short of words here! Here is announcing my next with utmost happiness and a feeling of for-most triumph. Couldn’t ask for anything better. Seeking all your blessings. Suriya 38 (sic)”.

The regular shooting of the project, which will be co-produced by Guneet Monga in association with 2D Entertainment, commenced from Monday in Chennai. Guneet recently confirmed that Suriya 38 will be based on the life of Captain Gopinath of Air Deccan. Best known for bankrolling projects such as The Lunchbox and Monsoon Shootout, Monga forays into the southern marker with this project. Niketh Bommi Reddy of U-Turn fame has been roped in as cinematographer and Satish Surya takes care of the editing. The news about Sudha's film with Suriya has been doing the rounds for nearly two years now.

In early 2017, Sudha pitched a story idea which Suriya really liked. Since he was busy with Singam 3, Thaana Serntha Kootam and NGK, he had to postpone the project. The makers are hopeful of releasing the film by this year-end or early next year. GV Prakash Kumar has already been signed to compose music. Prakash had recently revealed that he has already completed composing songs for the film, which will be simultaneously shot and released in Telugu.
