Straight out of Drishyam? Kerala man confesses to killing and burying body under building

Jeethu Joseph’s 2013 Malayalam blockbuster “Drishyam” told the story of a common man who perfectly hid his crime, by burying the murdered body beneath a police station building which was under construction. The movie ends with a notion that the crime would never come out until the body is found.

What the filmmaker didn’t know is that an eerily similar incident happened eight years ago, and was revealed in a dramatic confession on Tuesday evening.

Aneesh a native of Vaikom in Kottayam district was arrested by Mallappally police from Pathanamthitta district for printing fake currency notes in November. During his police interrogation on Tuesday, Aneesh allegedly confessed that he killed Mathew, a man from Kottayam, who had gone missing in 2008. The accused also allegedly confessed to hiding Mathew’s body beneath a shop in Thalayolaparambu.

Meanwhile in a phone conversation from a few days ago, Aneesh’s father revealed to Naisy, daughter of Mathew, that her father was murdered.

Based on the information received, Naisy filed a complaint with police. Police sources say that Aneesh confessed to killing Mathew and hiding the body beneath a building, that was allegedly owned by him. A three-storeyed building has now come up in the place where the body was buried.

Police sources say they have begun excavation at the basement of the building and they say that more details will be revealed only after collecting evidence.

Aneesh allegedly borrowed money from Mathew and this police claim led to a clash between them, which resulted in the murder.

Aneesh was running a printing unit in Thalayolaparambu and he allegedly printed fake notes in the unit. Eight years ago, when Mathew disappeared, his family thought he had abandoned them.

Naisy told the media that Aneesh’s father had come to meet her and over the phone he had revealed that Mathew had been murdered.
