Professor S M Rahamatullah, Dean, Satellite Campuses and Professor, Department of Public Administration, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) was Thursday appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Krishnadeveraya University (SKU) in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan in his capacity as the Chancellor of the University appointed Rahamatullah as the Vice-Chancellor of SKU for a term of three years.

Rahamatullah joined MANUU as Professor, Public Administration on March 1, 2007. He served in different capacities including Registrar and Dean, according to a statement from MANUU.

Dr Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. M A Sikandar, Registrar and teaching fraternity expressed happiness over his appointment and described it as an honour for Urdu University.

MANUU is a Central University established by legislation in Parliament in 1998, to provide technical and technical education in Urdu medium besides promoting the language. The University Headquarters spans across 200 acres of land in Gachibowli in Hyderabad.

According to the website of SKU, it began as a postgraduate centre of Sri Venkateswara University in the year 1967-68. It gained autonomy in the year 1976. The Autonomous Postgraduate Centre was accorded the status of a University in the year 1981.

“Starting with just five departments of study and a hundred students, the University now has five colleges on the campus: SKU College of Arts offering 18 PG courses and one UG course, SKU College of Sciences with 16 departments offering 19 PG courses, SKU College of Engineering and Technology offering M. Tech courses in three branches and B. Tech in five branches, SKU College of Education which offers M. Ed and B. Ed programmed, and SKU College of Pharmacy which offers M. Pharmacy and B. Pharmacy programmes.

SKU is situated just 10 km away from Anantapur city, in an extensive campus stretching 482 acres of land.
