Speeding youngsters on bikes, who were trying to outpace each other in Hyderabad late on Saturday night, resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

While the pedestrian died on the spot, the youngster who was riding the bike was reported to have suffered serious injuries.

The Times of India reported that at 1 am, a group of youngsters made their way towards Banjara Hills on six bikes.

As they were passing by Cinemax, the accused identified as Nadeem, crashed into Gopal (65), a watchman.

The report adds that Azhar, a car mechanic, who owned the bike, was riding pillion and he too fell on the road and escaped with minor injuries.

The New Indian Express reported that Gopal was flung into the air and fell 20 feet away, before suffering injuries to his head. He died on the spot.

Nadeem, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a serious injury, and was taken to the Gandhi hospital for treatment, where the police was alerted.

"The accused was not driving a high-end bike. It was a Yamaha make Rx 100 bike. The driver was not drunk. Nadeem’s rash and negligent driving resulted in death of the sexagenarian," a police officer told TNIE.

According to reports, the youth also did not have a driving license.

A case has been registered.
