Telugu Desam Party member CM Ramesh was on Wednesday suspended from Rajya Sabha for disrupting proceedings over the issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien suspended Ramesh after he did not heed repeated calls to return to his seat.

Soon after Motion of Thanks on President's address was passed by the house, Ramesh, along with two other TDP members, rushed towards Chairman's podium raising slogans "we want justice".

The action came after two brief adjournments of the house as Ramesh didn't leave the house despite being named by Kurien.

"I have named you. If you have any respect for the parliamentary democracy, you should leave the house. Its a shame. If he is standing here, I can not continue with the proceedings," Kurien said.

This came as Trinamool Congress' Derek O'Brien raised the question on the member's presence in the house despite being named.

"Why they are in house? Where are the marshals?" he asked.

Kurien than adjourned the house for 10 minutes.

When the house reassembled, Ramesh along with two other TDP members were again on their feet demanding justice over special package to Andhra Pradesh.

"I don't want unruly scenes by enforcing...," Kurien said and then adjourned the house for the day.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao was suspended for creating a commotion in the House.

Earlier this week, the MP held a placard that read ‘Help Andhra Pradesh’, and created a ruckus, following which Kurien threatened to penalise the Congress leader.

Reacting to protests a day earlier on Tuesday, Finance Minister Jaitley said that the Andhra Pradesh Finance Secretary will hold discussions with the Union Expenditure Secretary in New Delhi shortly to work out assistance for the state from externally-aided projects.

"One particular issue is of how the amount -- in view of the special status -- has to be paid. This, we had announced. This will be given and the state has requested for it," he said.

The Union Minister said the Centre had already provided Rs 3,900 crore to Andhra Pradesh as revenue deficit after its bifurcation.
