Six students were arrested and sixty-five were suspended on Thursday from Pachaiyappa’s college after a clash between two rival groups a few days ago.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, officials said that this was a continuation of a clash that had taken place earlier. A few days ago, about 100 people of one gang assaulted two from the other gang and the college was shut for two days.

College principal S Kaliraj said that around 10:45 am, they heard screams and when they reached the spot, a gang from one department was beating up two people from another department. He also told TNIE that this was to do with a bus route rivalry.

A senior police officer said he had indicated to the college that a clash might happen on Thursday, after getting information about a rival group planning to attack.

The disciplinary panel conducted a check and found knives in the bags of six people.

Students are divided on the basis of bus routes they take. The principal said that about 100 students from Poonamalle group attacked the Parrys and Perambur students. These students escaped and the college was able to catch only 70 students.
