Actor Sivakarthikeyan turned producer with Aishwarya Rajesh’s Kanaa, a story about an aspiring cricketer and her struggles to find a place in the national level. Even before the release of Kanaa, Siva’s second production with Rio Raj and Shirin Kanchawala in the lead went on the floors earlier on Friday. 

The film will be directed by debutant Karthik Venugopalan of popular YouTube channel Black Sheep Tamil and also stars Radha Ravi, Politician Nanjil Sampath and R Vigneshkanth in pivotal roles. According to trusted sources, the film is said to be a fun entertainer with a social message.

His first production Kanaa, which marks the directorial debut of lyricist-turned-filmmaker Arunraja Kamaraj who had studied together with Siva in college, will hit the screens this December. The official trailer of the upcoming film was released on Sunday by cricketer Ashwin Ravichandran and it was received very well.

Aishwarya Rajesh plays the titular role while Baahubali fame Sathyaraj plays her father in the film. The film is said to revolve around a young girl named Kausalya hailing from a village who aspires to become a cricketer and makes it big in national level cricket. Unlike many of the recent outings, Kanaa is neither a biopic, nor inspired from anyone’s life.

The audio the film was last month in Chennai, the teaser was unveiled by popular Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, who is a star player of the Indian Women's team.

The music of the film has been composed by Dhibu Ninan.

On taking the plunge into production, Sivakarthikeyan had said in a statement: “Film industry had given me the name and the fame. I owe a lot to the industry. I feel it is my responsibility to help my friends realize their dreams, the same friends who have stood beside me through thick and thin, we have always shared the same dream of achievement and glory.”
