It looks like actor Shriya Saran may have bagged an important role in Baahubali: Before the Beginning, the prequel to the popular Baahubali series directed by SS Rajamouli. While sources tell us that Shriya has heard the script, no confirmation has been made from her side yet.

On the other hand, there are reports that Mrunal Thakur will be playing the role Sivagami in it. Ramya Krishnan has done this role in both Baahubali – the Beginning and Baahubali – the Conclusion and won critical acclaim for her performance.

The web series will be about what happened before the beginning and will be helmed by Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru. Deva Katta is well known for directing films such as Autonagar Surya, Prasthanam, and Vennela.

Reports are that Shriya Saran was chosen for the role after her performance in the historical Gautamiputra Satkarni. Season one of the prequel series comprises of nine episodes and is based on Anand Neelakantan’s book, 'The Rise of Sivagami'.

This (prequel) series captures Queen Sivagami’s journey from a rebellious and vengeful girl to a wise and unequaled queen. The series will be set 50 years before the events of the first film and seventy-five years before the second.

According to trade sources, the web series would be made on a budget of Rs 10 crores and it would revolve on Sivagami’s character. The web series is set in a time period even before the events of the Baahubali franchise unfolded. It is because of this, a younger actor was chosen to play Ramya Krishnan’s role, say sources.

It may be noted here that Baahubali, directed by SS Rajamouli, starred Prabhas in the title role with Anushka Shetty, Tammannah, Rana Daggubati, Sathyaraj, Nasser and Ramya Krishnan playing pivotal roles.

The Baahubali franchise was produced by Arka Media Works on a budget of Rs 450 crores. Released in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, etc., the film went on to collect over Rs 1600 crores at the box office.

With the Baahubali web series on cards, film buffs can expect the magic to unfold once again!
