Bengaluru Rural district police on Thursday arrested seven people for assault on two police personnel and Alliance University Chancellor Madhukar Angur.

Superintendent of Police, Amit Singh told The News Minute that Madhukar Angur, who jointly runs the private university with his brother Sudhir Angur, was not allowed inside the campus on Anekal-Chandapura road. He was stopped by his brother and other relatives.

The incident happened in the night between 9pm and 11pm.

"They did not allow him as there is some family dispute going on about who will be the Chancellor of the University. An altercation broke out and blew up into a fight," Singh said.

Singh added that in its latest verdict, the Karnataka High Court maintained that the first Chancellor of the University will continue to hold the position. With the backing of this order, Madhukar had gone to the campus on Thursday night.

A case of assault has been registered against seven people.

Anekal police sub-inspector Govardhan told The News Minute that when the police intervened, over seven people hurled stones and also scratched his body and tore his clothes.

"Sudhir Angur, his wife Chabbi and their son Abhay Angur are three of the seven people arrested in the case," Govardhan said.

Chancellor Madhukar was suspended in 2015 after he was accused of rape. He was arrested in February 2016 after his niece, an employee at the university, accused him of sexually assaulting her. In March, another woman filed a rape case against him. The 50-year-old marketing executive met him through a matrimonial website and accused him of raping her thrice.

Madhukar however, claims that Sudhir and other family members were framing him to take over the administrative reins of the varsity.
