Sequel to Leader not anytime soon director Sekhar Kammula clarifies

Director Sekhar Kammula is basking in glory over the success of his latest film Fidaa.

With a success under his belt, there were reports that the director is looking forward to directing the sequel to his blockbuster film Leader, which hit the marquee in 2010.

However, he has gone on record to clarify that the sequel is not happening anytime soon.

Reports suggest that the director is working on a new script which is touted to be a romantic entertainer.

This project is slated to go on to the floors early next year. It is after this film is wrapped up, that Sekhar may take up the sequel to Leader. Sources are rife with the news that Leader sequel may be well in time for the 2019 elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Produced by M. Saravanan, MS Guhan, Aruna Guhan and Aparna Guhan under the banner AVM Productions, Leader starred Rana Daggubati, Priya Anand and Richa Gangopadhyay in the lead roles with Suhasini Maniratnam, Suman and Kota Srinivasa Rao in pivotal roles.

Mickey J Meyer had composed music for this flick while Vijay C Kumar was the cinematographer and Marthand K Venkatesh was the editor.

Leader was a political drama that struck a chord with the audiences following which it was decided to make a sequel to it and have it released during the general elections in 2019.

It may be noted here that Rana Daggubati made his acting debut with Leader in 2010 which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut – South and the CineMAA Award for Best Male Debut.

In August this year, Sekhar Kammula's romantic drama Fidaa became the seventh Telugu film to enter the $2 million club in the US.

The other Telugu films to have minted over $2 million in the US include Baahubali, Srimanthudu, Naanaku Prematho, A...Aa, Khaidi No 150 and Baahubali 2.
