Senior BJP politician tipped off Mallya about arrest: AAP and Congress demand action

"BJP makes it look like they are going after Mallya, but there seems to be a gap between what they say and do"

The Aam Aadmi Party in Karnataka has alleged the role of Modi government in letting wilful defaulter Vijay Mallya to leave the country.

Prithvi Reddy, convener of AAP Karnataka told The News Minute, “He couldn't have gone out without the help from the government when such a huge issue was brewing in his backyard,

“On one hand, BJP makes it look like they are going after Mallya, but there seems to be a gap between what they say and what they are doing,” he said.

This comes after senior Congress leader  Randeep Surjewala on Sunday claimed that a senior politician part of in the Modi government tipped off wilful defaulter Vijay Mallya to leave the country.

India has formally sought deportation of Vijay Mallya from UK, where he has been staying since March 2.

Since, then Mallya had refused to appear before a special court in Mumbai in a case related to money laundering case in which he owes a consortium of banks Rs 9,000 crore. Mallya is also likely to lose his Rajya Sabha membership too as the parliamentary ethics panel will discuss the matter

However, this is not the first time Surjewala had alleged the Modi government of being informed about Mallya’s departure and even questioned if PM Modi was apprised of this decision. He had then said Mallya met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley before leaving the country.

Mallya was elected as an independent MP from Karnataka in 2010 with the help of BJP and JD(S).

Mallya, a two-term Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka and was a member of the committee that decided on India’s aviation policies.
