Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao lashed out at the Congress party on Monday, claiming that it was the main hurdle in the development of the state.

Addressing a convention of TRS student leaders in Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, he asked people to 'get rid' of the Congress.

“The same Congress had merged Telangana region in 1956 much against the wishes of the people and it also evaded granting of statehood to Telangana for many years. Indeed Congress leaders of Telangana worked against the movement,” KTR was quoted as saying.

He also lashed out at the Congress for being one of the most corrupt parties in the country. "Their name should be scamgress, not Congress," he said, amid applause.

"The Congress came down on every leader who tried to work for the development of Telangana. The party did not concede to Statehood out of mercy, rather due to fear," he added.

This is not the first time that the TRS leader has hit out against the Congress. Last month, KTR went on a Twitter spree, lashing out against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, following the latter's massive rally at Sangareddy.

Stating that unemployment was the biggest challenge faced by India, Rahul Gandhi asked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to stop making "hollow promises" and set up factories to provide jobs to the youth.

It was not the Telangana for which students, youth, women and other sections of people fought, Rahul Gandhi had said.

"Some so called 'national leaders' of 'national' parties who can't even win an election in their own backyard, make tall claims elsewhere," KTR hit back.

Responding to Gandhi's claim of 'family rule' in Telangana, he said, "Indian Notional Congress leadership talking of 'family rule' has to be the joke of the millennium. Classic comedy," (sic).

KTR also told the Congress leader, "Pre-scripted speeches written by a bunch of discredited local leaders can at best make your party look silly. Get your facts right Rahul Ji."
