TV Mahadevan, nephew of AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala, passed away at 9am on Saturday from a cardiac arrest.

The 47-year-old, who is the son of Sasikala’s late brother Dr Vinodagan, had gone to Thiruvidaimarudhur temple near Thanjavur when he complained of chest pain, said a source to TNM.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Kumbakonam but was, however, declared brought dead.

His body is presently at a private hospital in Thanjavur.

Mahadevan was the district secretary of the Jayalalithaa Peravai.

Sources say Sasikala’s nephew was powerful in the Trichy region and was into real estate.

His father Dr Vinodagan was said to have taken care of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa by keeping her safe at his house in Kutanallur near Mannargudi during the troubled times after MGR’s death.

Like many members in the Sasikala family, Mahadevan too was among her inner circle following the former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s rebellion against her leadership.

Meanwhile, sources say that Sasikala, who is presently lodged at the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru is likely to move court seeking parole for Mahadevan's funeral. The Supreme Court had in February upheld the trial court's verdict convicting her, along with sister-in-law Ilavarasi and nephew Sudhakaran in the Disproportionate Assets case. She is presently serving her four-year jail sentence.
